Tiger Project Part 3: Show off your knowledge

Now that you have gathered information about the tiger, it is time for you to make your infographic.

1.  Watch this video to learn about infographics:

2. Look at each of the infographic slides below.  Find one that you want to use.  

Make a copy of it before you start.

3.  Your presentation must have:

• your name and room number (1 point).
• 4-6 pieces of information about the tiger (1 point).
• 1-2 photographs of tigers that will help explain your information (1 point).
• correct spelling (1 point).
• correct capitalization and punctuation (1 point).

4. Pro-tips:

• You may not finish today.  That is okay.  Save your work for next time.
• Ask a classmate for assistance if you are unsure what to do.
• Look at other infographics for ideas and inspiration.
• If you need more tiger info, go back to the previous Tiger Project slides.

Lunar New Year

• As you listen, think about cultural holidays that you celebrate with your family.
• What customs do you follow?
• What special foods are eaten?
• What symbols and colors are important to your celebration?
• What meaning/significance does your cultural holiday have for you and your family?

Why words matter. Honoring Dr. King.

Today we will take a break from The Tiger Project to learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

1.  Watch the read aloud for Martinś Big Words written by Doreen Rappaport, illustrated by Bryan Collier, and published by Hyperion Books for Children.

2.  Words are powerful, and Dr. King, like many leaders, use them to share their message.  Look at the quote below.  How does it relate to our word of the month, perseverance?

3.  Read the excerpt from Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" Speech:

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." 

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. 

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. 

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.
